The mission of the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) is six fold: (1) To develop informed and responsible citizens; (2) To develop character, leadership, follower-ship, ethical behavior, and the desirable traits that build responsibility; (3) To enlighten the student about the elements and requirements of national security; (4) To teach the concepts of self-discipline, self-control, and confidence; (5) To develop an understanding of the reality of authority in ones life and a thoughtful respect for it, and (6) To enlighten the student to possible career and educational choices. This coeducational elective is designed to foster positive habits and attitudes that will enable the student to succeed regardless of his/her plans after high school. Cadets are required to wear a uniform one full school day each week. Cadets must maintain acceptable grooming standards.Uniforms are provided at no cost to the students. JROTC HAS NO MILITARY OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER. FOCUS IS ON PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, LEADERSHIP, AND CHARACTER.
MCJROTC LE-1, 2 semesters 2 credits
Grade 9 (or first-year student)
Prerequisite: Current physical
This first year course provides cadets with an introduction to both leadership and citizenship. The first year also gives the new cadets exposure to personal growth and responsibility and starts to establish a foundation of military structure and tradition. Students are also introduced to problem solving, community service, and leadership practical application. Personal accountability and self-discipline are focal. MCJROTC LE-1 classes will be augmented with LE-3 students to provide leadership and training cadre to the new cadets.
MCJROTC LE-2, 2 semesters 2 credits
Prerequisite: (May be waived by Marine Instructors on a case-by-case basis), current physical and successful completion of MCJROTC LE-1.
MCJROTC LE-2 is a second year JROTC course. The class explores JROTC subjects in greater detail than LE-1 and emphasizes leadership theory, style and principles. Some leadership roles are assigned to second year cadets. This course is designed to instill into students the desire to accept responsibility utilizing various leadership techniques. Students are also introduced to problem solving, community service, and leadership practical application. Personal accountability and self-discipline are focal.
MCJROTC LE-3, 2 semesters 2 credits
Prerequisite: (May be waived by Marine Instructors on a case-by-case basis), current physical and successful completion of MCJROTC LE-1 and LE-2.
MCJROTC LE-3 cadets will augment the LE-1 classes astraining and leadership cadre. LE-3 cadets will begin to use their leadership training as they assume positions of increased responsibility within the MCJROTC program.
MCJROTC LE-4, 2 semesters 2 credits
Prerequisite: (May be waived by Marine Instructors on a case-by-case basis), current physical and successful completion of MCJROTC LE-1, LE-2 and LE-3.
The MCJROTC LE-4 class is principally practical application interspersed with leadership forums that include resolving group conflicts, equal opportunity/sexual harassment/fraternization, preparation of lesson plans, research papers, current events dealing with national security issues, and general military subjects. The MCJROTC LE-4 class is principally the operational and administrative cadre of the MCJROTC program.
Exhibition Drill, 2 semesters 2 credits
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Currently enrolled in an LE-1, LE-2, LE-3, or LE-4 class and have completed at least one semester of a regular MCJROTC class.
Drill for public performance, both competitive and for entertainment, is studied and practiced on a daily basis. Students develop drill sequences for individual, dual, and multi-member routines. Preparation of students for actual performance on the MCJROTC drill team is focal. Members of the Drill Team travel each year and participate in approximately five-ten varsity drill meets. Students may earn a Varsity P letter as members of the MCJROTC Drill Team. This is a continuously building course and may be taken as many times as desired.
