Welcome to the Scholarships page of Portage High School, where students can find a variety of local, state, and national scholarships to help offset the cost of college. The scholarships below are organized by deadline date. Please read through each scholarship carefully to learn about the application process and requirements. Contact your school counselor with any questions.

Local Scholarships

IUB Groups Scholars Program 

Attention IU Bloomington bound seniors. If you receive free or reduced lunch or if you are a first generation college student, you may qualify for IU Groups Scholars.  Minimum academic requirements also includes at least two years of a world language and Pre-Calculus. Groups Scholars provides academic, social, emotional, and sometimes financial support to its members. More information about IUB Group Scholars will be released in the early Fall, please reach out to Mrs. Shrader with questions

Chick-fil-A Community Scholars

Award

If selected as a Chick-fil-A Community Scholar, the student will be granted up to a $25,000 award. Twelve (12) awards will be granted. Amounts of the final awards will be determined by Chick-fil-A, Inc.


Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Reside in the United States (U.S.) or Canada
  • Be current high school seniors/students in their final year of upper or higher secondary school, college/university undergraduate (including CEGEP students) or graduate students or planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university (or equivalent), or full-time study at a vocational-technical school or CEGEP institution for the upcoming academic year
  • Be involved in community service, extracurricular activities and/or a leadership role in the twelve (12) months prior to application deadline (for example, volunteering for nonprofits, helping others less fortunate, tutoring/mentoring, etc.)
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)

Regeneron Science Talent Search

Award

Three hundred scholars are awarded $2,000; with an additional $2,000 going to their high schools to support STEM education. The top 300 scholars will also receive an invitation to apply to Regeneron’s summer internship program. All 40 finalists win an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC for the Regeneron Science Talent Institute where they explain their research to some of the country’s top scientists and compete for the top 10 awards. The top award is $250,000.


Eligibility 

Applicants must:

  • Be living in and attending their last year of secondary school in the US and its territories
  • Complete individual research projects in a critically important scientific field of study

Award

Students can win up to a full-ride scholarship to IU Indianapolis


Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student as a first-time philanthropic studies major or  a high school senior who plans to major in philanthropic studies at ILI 
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from your most recent institution (high school or university)
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Award

Scholarships ranging from $1,000 - $7,500 per year 

 

Eligibility

Students must be a high school senior who is a citizen of the United States. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

The Youth Awards - Hispanic Heritage Foundation

Award

Youth Award recipients will receive up to a $4,000 educational grant depending on the selected category to use for their college education or to fund a community service effort. National Youth Award recipients will be celebrated at the National Youth Awards ceremony.


Eligibility

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE YOUTH AWARDS, YOU MUST:

  • Be currently enrolled in high school and graduating in the spring of 2024
  • Must have a minimum unweighted 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or 7.5 on a 10.0 scale
  • Must enroll at an accredited higher education institution in 2024-2025
  • Be of Hispanic heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, Philippines)
  • If selected, attendance to the virtual ceremony is mandatory

James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists

Award

Five (5) Digital SLR Cameras will be awarded to five (5) high school students

 

Eligibility

  • High school students must have completed one year at an accredited high school (10th-12th grade)
  • Have taken at least one photography or related art class
  • Must be a United States Citizen and attend school in the United States

Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship Program

Award

The amount of the award varies by student, based on the cost of attendance as well as the amount of other scholarships or grants a recipient will receive. The maximum amount of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s scholarship is $55,000 per year.

 

Eligibility

  • Graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2024
  • Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2024
  • Earn a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Demonstrate unmet financial need. They will consider applicants with family annual gross income up to $95,000. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.

Schoolhouse Connection Youth Leadership and Scholarship Program

Award

Recipients receive a $2500 scholarship, all expense paid national award trip 2024, and all expense paid Washington DC trip in Summer 2025.


Eligibility

  • Currently Residing in the United States (undocumented applicants are eligible)
  • Born On or After November 24, 2003
  • Beginning College (four year, community college, or trade school) for the first time in  2024 (not including dual-enrollment courses)
  • Experienced Homelessness in the Last Six Years

Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. Scholarship for young Hispanic Leaders

Award

Award recipients will receive an academic scholarship ($1,000 for a 4-year institution or $500 for a 2-year institution) and a complimentary registration to attend the 2023 USHLI National Conference.


Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be full-time undergraduate students for the Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 academic year. This includes high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
  • Demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support
  • Have at least one parent of Hispanic ancestry

Award

Two (2) $500 awards

 

Eligibility

  • Must be currently enrolled in either high school, university, or college
  • Employees and relatives of National Driving and Traffic School are ineligible

  • The winner will be required to provide proof of successful acceptance to a Higher Institute of Learning, College, or University. Payment will be made directly to the applicant's college

Award

Everyday Jobs is providing two $500 scholarships which you can use toward books, tuition, or anything else related to school expenses.

Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Physics Teachers 

Award

The winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship and a one year membership to the American Association of Physics Teachers

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be accepted into an accredited two-year college, four-year college or a university
  • Be a US citizen
  • Plan to pursue a course of study leading towards a career in teaching physics in high school
  • Show promise of success in their studies

AED.US Scholarship

Award

AED.us awards one $1,500 scholarship.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must be a high school senior or enrolled in an accredited college or university.

 

Application

Applicants must complete the following steps to apply:

  • Locate and take a picture of an AED in your community 
  • Interview someone who has used an AED (i.e. EMS, Fire Dept, Law Enforcement)
  • Record a 1-2 minute video of them describing a time when an AED saved or could have saved a life
  • Write a 300-500 word summary of the interview 
  • Email Picture, Video, and Summary to [email protected]

Dells Scholars Program

Award

Nationally, 500 Dell Scholars are selected each year. All Dell Scholars receive:

  • A $20,000 scholarship
  • Personalized, multifacted support for the academic, financial, and emotional life challenges that may prevent students from completing college
  • A laptop with a 4-year warranty
  • Chegg credits. ($500 annually for four years) to be used for textbook purchases and rentals and/or textbook solutions (via Chegg Study)
  • Scholars Resource Network for scholars and their families to deal with stress, debt,  and other life circumstances
  • Access to a teletherapy service that connects students to professional counseling

Eligibility 

Students must:

  • Participate in a program-approved college readiness program in grades 11 and 12. View a list of approved CRPs here
  • Be on track to graduate from an accredited high school in the current academic year
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
  • Be eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant and first year of college
  • Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited higher education institution in the pursuit of a bachelor's degree in the fall directly following high school graduation
  • Earn a minimum of a 2.4 GPA

Hagan Scholarship

Award

The Hagan Scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must attend a traditional public high school located in the U.S. that is governed by a school district.
  • Must have achieved a 3.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average.
  • Must enroll at an Eligible Four-Year College or University the first semester following high school graduation.
  • Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule in college.
  • Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2024 until commencement of the 2024 fall semester in college. Work can be performed at recipient discretion. Work must be regularly scheduled employment performed under supervision for compensation. Most recipients work during the summer months. However, all paid employment counts, including part-time employment during this time period.
  • Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $85,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all members of a household living under the same roof.
  • Applicants selected as Finalists in early 2024 must provide a copy of their FAFSA SAR.
  • Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.
  • Must not have a felony conviction

Ron Brown Scholarship Program 

Award

Ron Brown Scholars receive $40,000 toward their college of choice, and are provided mentoring, leadership experiences, and service opportunities.

 

Eligibility

Applicants:

  • Must be Black/African American.
  • Must excel academically.
  • Must exhibit exceptional leadership potential.
  • Must participate in community service activities.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.
  • Be a current high school senior at the time of your application.

Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship

Award

National Scholarship winners receive a $10,000 scholarship and a $5,000 grant for their hunger-related charity.

 

Eligibility

Students must:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through graduate school) in the United States
  • have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months
  • All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States who reside in the contiguous United States, Alaska, and Hawaii only.
  • Volunteer services performed by applicants must help non-family members.

The Science Ambassador Scholarship

Award

The winner's undergraduate tuition expenses will be paid for up to four years, starting with the 2024-2025 academic year.

Students must:

  • Be a woman or non-binary student attending (or planning to attend) a school in the United States or a US Territory
  • Be majoring in an Eligible STEM Field
  • Be a high school senior (or undergraduate student)

Burger King Scholars Program

Award

Multiple scholarships, up to $60,000.

 

Eligibility

Students must be:

  • Be living in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada
  • Be graduating high school seniors (U.S., Puerto Rico and Guam), graduating from grade 12 (Canada) or graduating from home school education in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent
  • Plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2024-25 academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school or CEGEP or equivalent in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada

Award

Winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of the United States or in possession of an Alien Registration Card

  • Pursuing a degree in the medical field such as therapy, nursing, medicine, nutrition, laboratory science, dentistry, etc.

Award

Winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must write a 350 or more word essay on the topic of healthcare. The Essay must address the following 2 questions:

  1) Should Healthcare be Universal?

  2) How do you feel about the cost of healthcare vs the benefit?

Equitable Excellence Scholarship Program

Award

Up to 100 renewable awards of $5,000 each and up to 100 one-time honorariums of $2,500 each will be granted.

 

Eligibility

Students must:

  • Demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in school, community or work activities
  • Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Be a current high school senior in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico who plans to enroll full-time in a two or four year college in the United States for the upcoming academic year
 
*Applicants must be willing to provide a release to publicize their identities and information about their achievements along with photographs for use in program promotion and information.

Award

  • Not be an employee or dependent of an employee of Home Depot.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

Award

Scholarship recipients receive a $10,000 renewable scholarship (up to $40,000 total) for tuition, school fees, books, supplies, and on-campus room and board. 

 

Eligibility

Candidates must

  • Demonstrate the attributes of leadership, integrity, drive, and citizenship within their communities, schools, and workplaces
  • Display strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent)
  • Be citizens of the United States of America
  • Be current high school seniors attending high school within the United States, (including any U.S. territories or commonwealths), and graduating in winter 2023 or spring 2024. Applicants living on a U.S. Armed Forces base and attending high school outside the U.S. are eligible.
  • Plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four year college or university in the United States for the entire 2024-2025 academic school year

APIA Scholarship Program

Award

Recipients can receive awards ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.

 

Eligibility 

  • Be able to describe your ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry in relation to the countries, territories, or lands in Asia or the Pacific Islands
  • Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States
  • Be enrolling or continuing as a degree-seeking undergraduate student in a US accredited college or university in Fall 2024
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted), or equivalent, or have earned a GED
  • Must apply for federal financial aid for the 24-25 academic year using the FASFA by early April 2024

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

Award

JRF Scholars receive college scholarships of up to $35,000 over four years and are financially sponsored to attend JRF‘s annual, four-day “Mentoring and Leadership Conference“ in New York City and other events throughout the year.

 

Eligibility 

  • Must be a graduating, minority high school senior
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Present evidence of financial need
  • Demonstrate a record of academic excellence
  • Demonstrate leadership potential and a dedication to community service
  • Plan to attend an accredited/approved 4 year college within the United States or affiliated with a US-based college or university
  • Have not accrued more than 25% of credits needed to graduate from college

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Award

First Place: $10,000

Second Place: $3,000

Five Finalists: $1,000 each

Eight Semi-Finalists: $100 each

 

Eligibility

The contest is open to United States high school students in grades 9-12 attending public, private, parochial, or home schools; US students under the age of twenty enrolled in a high school correspondence/GED program in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, or the US territories; and US citizens attending schools overseas. Past winners and finalists are not eligible to participate.

Speaking Up About Mental Health Essay Contest

Award

The contest, supported by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), will award a total of $15,000 in cash prizes to multiple winners.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must be a high school student ages 16 to 18 years old.

Lee J Brockway Scholarship

Award

Each academic year, one (1) student will be selected as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship award.

 

Eligibility

The MWGL Region seeks students who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Reside in one of the following locations: States of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the province of Ontario, Canada.
  • Currently enrolled in the twelfth grade.

 

*The student selected should be intending to enroll in a field related to educational facility planning and design. These would include, but not be limited to, architecture, engineering, interior design, facility planning, and construction management.

Award

Multiple scholarships are offered so awards may vary. 

 

Eligibility

Applicants:

  • Must be citizens of the United States.
  • Must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Are only eligible to receive one scholarship from the DAR.

The Dream.us Opportunity Scholarship

Award

The Opportunity Scholarship Award will cover your tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and meals at one of our Partner Colleges up to a maximum of $80,000 for a bachelor’s degree.

 

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for our scholarship if you meet the following eligibility criteria.

  • Are undocumented and came to the United States before November 1, 2018, and have continuously lived in the United States since then or have DACA or TPS.
  • Came to the United States before the age of 16 (if you were born in the U.S. – you are not eligible for our scholarship).
  • Have significant unmet financial need.
  • Live in and have graduated or will graduate from a high school in a targeted locked-out state by the end of the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Graduated or will graduate with a high school GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or have a cumulative college/university GPA of 2.5 or better.
  • Intend to relocate to and enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an Opportunity Partner College in the Fall term of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship

Award

The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship provides high-achieving high school and college students interested in pursuing a career in education the opportunity to earn a renewable scholarship of up to $10,000 each year for four academic years.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be an Indiana resident
  • Must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Must be a current high school senior or college student in Indiana
  • Must have graduated or will graduate from an Indiana accredited high school or non-accredited nonpublic high school 
  • Must be able to utilize the scholarship for at least two full academic years 
  • Must meet one of the three Academic Requirements
    • Rank in the top 20% of high school graduating class
    • Have a top 20% ACT or SAT score
    • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must currently attend or plan to attend an eligible Indiana institution as a full-time student
  • Must pursue or intend to pursue a course of study that would enable the student to teach at an eligible Indiana school after college graduation 
  • Must obtain a license to teach in Indiana and serve as a teacher in an eligible Indiana school for five years after college graduation

In 2023, the Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship Program is offering about 150 scholarships for $2,000 a semester and 10 scholarships for $5,500 a semester — or $2.84 million over eight semesters.

Award

A scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to a successful candidate. This can be renewed for up to three additional years if you maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA.

  • Candidate must be a 2023 graduating senior or a college student who was awarded a scholarship the prior year from FBi Buildings, Inc.
  • This Scholarship will only be applied to the Building Construction Management (BCM) and School of Agriculture Engineering, Design (CAD), Sales, Marketing, and Engineering.

Award

The scholarship awards $1000.00 annually for 4 years provided that the student demonstrates continued progress toward a public works field degree.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must be high School Seniors who plan to attend an accredited institution of higher learning during the Fall 2023 Semester at the undergraduate level whose major course of study encompasses the fields of Engineering, Public Works Administration, Public Relations, Finance or other programs within the public works field are eligible.
