hello 8th graders and welcome to the Portage High School schedule a instructions for the class of 2023 the reminder of the students last name you will see a list of counselors along with their contact information if you wish to see your counselor before and during your lunch also remember this email. all courses are worth one credit per semester two semesters long for example English and math classes please make sure you are choosing seven classes each semester students will have the opportunity to earn 14 total credits per school year all semester grades will count towards your cumulative GPA and diploma requirements please refer to the core 40 diploma handout located in your schedule it is a good idea to make sure that you are selecting the correct horses for your diploma choice you will see a list of Grey core 40 requirements student must complete 2 credits anyone interested in taking honors English 9 will need approval from the English teacher give me a course will be determined by your current math groups 9th graders will be taking Algebra 1 student may be recommended for honors geometry remember though 8th grade algebra 1 credits to count for high school credit students will need to earn a b average between semesters students with a b-minus average and Below will be required to retake algebra 1 in 9 in science your current teachers will recommend either biology 1 honors biology or Earth and space science geography remember your recommendations will be required for all honors Quest we also strongly encouraged that all students careers in PE during their freshman year students interested in earning an academic honors diploma will need to remember that there are several additional requirements core 40 requirements students will need to earn students must also take 3 years of a foreign language for two years of two different languages requirement is that students turn to Fine Art credits additionally 47 total credits while not receiving any AC in the require finally taking AP exams in earning dual credits are also included requirements for the academic honors diploma requirements are also wishing to earn a Technical Honors diploma similar to the student will need to earn 47 total credits not receiving any semester grades below a c in there require Quest are there more students will need to earn a minimum of six credits in a project are the requirements can also passing University exams or any state certifications high school students are required to complete a minimum of forty Service Learning hours volunteer opportunities can be found in the guidance office education or vocational programs are available to all Juniors and seniors interested students should make sure they are passing all the classes and completing all the graduation requirements free up space in a student schedule has CTE courses will take up three. During school day also keep in mind that CTE programs are open to students from all the Porter County High School this means hundreds of students are competing for limited spots so it is extremely important that interested students focus on their attendance and cumulative GPA refer to your course request sheet and the other materials included in your scheduling packet your teachers will be informing you of the days that the high school counselors will be coming to visit at this time we will be reviewing your schedule choices for next year please make sure that you have your course request sheet completed by this date also a good idea to discuss your choices with your begin completing your course request sheet by writing your name we also ask that you provide us with a phone number and email address oftentimes certain classes will be cancer or there could be a conflict with some of your children chords this will help us if we need to get in touch with you over the summer and have any questions regarding your schedule now take a look at the chart labeled in semester 2 you will use this chart to help you plan out your 14 credits for the next school year many of the required classes have already been centered you will need to complete your electives like senior designer glasses from the back of the storm we suggest that you write your choices on a separate sheet of paper after you have determined which course is you definitely want you can then enter them into the shirt 10 course number at this time we also highly recommend geography once you have soup please continue to the alternate chord list these will be used for backup classes in the event please choose to Tuesday's class as carefully as they may appear in your schedule due to unfortunate conflict and you were reviewing the courses on your feet notice that some of the course numbers will include either the letters a b or c words ending in NAB such as 4792 a b intro to construction are full year take up one slot each semester horses and see such as 5362 C Child Development are one semester courses that will take up only once for one semester this case we suggest entering another one semester course in the other semester slot next to it do summer school courses available expression students who may need to free up space for band chorus or a foreign language should consider taking PE in college and careers in the summer student can earn two credits for both 25% a full list of courses available and their descriptions can be found on the Portage High School website under the guidance tab you will find a link to the course description which are separated by departments here you can view what will be covered during each course you will also notice thank you all for watching this video counselors hope you enjoy selecting your classes and we are looking forward to meeting you soon go Indians
