Portage High School Interact Club

hi I'm always Franco I know historian of Portage High School interact and I will be telling you about the history of PHS and wrecked. Here's a little slide about what we do and what we're all about the Portage High School interact Club has a total of 30 members who are either in person or virtual student for the 2021 school year the club's goal is to help the community become a better place and just give back to the community of Portage Indiana we meet every Tuesday after school from 2:40 to 3:15 sometimes 3:30 or even later if we're working on a project the executive board meets the first Monday of every month the club encompasses students from Great Sand 9 to 12 and is a place where we can all connect while the same time doing something good all together as one meet the board of directors not everyone is shown in the picture due to director absences or some people being virtual students this is our president Abigail strong she is in 11th grade Junior she has been interact Club 433 and she said I've had the pleasure of working with many organizations and amazing people to help the community in my time at the Portage High School I work hard everyday to make interact Club a pleasant and enjoyable place to be a part of the community this is our president Caitlin Penrod she is also in 11th grade Junior she has been in a wreck on for two years and she said I joined this club because I love the feeling of giving to others without receiving anything and I saw that is a great opportunity to meet new people as well as way to get out and be active in the community this is our secretary Thea Shoop she is also an 11-3 Junior and has also been in a wreck club for two years she join in Iraq because she's always loved helping others and she knew this I would give her the perfect opportunity to be a helping hand with the community this is our treasure America Prado she is also no other three Junior like the other ones Her Interactive status is two years and she said I an opportunity that benefited more than people more people than just myself in Iraq is an organization where it helps the community and a citizens in it truly everything we do is an act of altruism explaining your involvement in doing things that positively affect the community and that make people happy just an all-around good feeling now this is me I'm historian I'm also in 11th grade Junior This is my first I joined KHS to make Friends Animal Society and family since I was a new student this coming up school year I've always admired and want to be part of a rotary club one day so I thought this would be a great start at the same time I can get back to me and community and help others and leaves me with a very humble feeling afterwards a scene I did that benefits other people this is our media director Emily Martinez she handles all the social media posts that interact club and take pictures sometimes and then that's his things we have going on at school she has an 11th grade Junior and this is also first year I joined PHS interact because it's a family that can come together the about the community I've met new people while doing some good for others being able to help others while also running and gaining Great Character skills awesome she said to tell you I'm service projects that we have and we have had in the past the first service project is the stop the stigma 5K in 2019 this was a fundraiser 5K for mental health awareness all proceeds of the event are donated to Mental Health America Fort this was an annual event leading up to the covid-19 pandemic when it was in the works for 20 20 the group raised a total of $3,000 between the 2018 and 2019 events here is another event that's what this year it was Valentine's Day card making homemade over 65 Valentine's Day cards for seniors at the Miller Senior Living facility and Portage Indiana club members also went along to deliver the car to the senior living facility the Friday before Valentine's Day on February 12th third event is Valentine's Day pretzel salad that went on between 2018 and 2020 this was a project that raise money for Gabriel horns woman shelter chocolate covered pretzels were sold for almost a month of lunches during for Valentine's Day they were sold $2 for one pretzel and $2.50 for three pretzels and the picture is a show students whenever they were putting in time and effort to make the pretzels for at lunch has the 4th fundraiser is Santa's workshop at the YMCA it took place between 2018 and 2019 the YMCA director set up a workshop for families with children to enjoy a dinner and games interact member set up different stations for kids to play at including relay races and scavenger hunt activities focused on teamwork and Community Building within the YMCA members and their families login for birthday and 20 teen party in a sword you might not recognize simply because it's made up by two activities which are jogging and picking up litter simultaneously students met and picked up litter on the 4 ninjas school campus campus beautiful and all in all it would her free place and a beautiful environment for students United Way youth day of caring in 2018 the Portage interact Club joined other youth from Northwest Indiana help clean up the Arboretum prepare for the spring and this dive into nature they were accompanied by farm animals and the sounds and many sites of the Arboretum the interact Club has many goals for the years to come interact Club wants to grown members and have more people at the school involved most current members are either Juniors or seniors however we can ensure the club grows next school year before the current executive board members graduate more people get involved over the next couple of years the club can just keep growing as members come and go so we can start doing a lot more service projects a month there for members can leave by Swarthmore team and Leadership skills you for listening to our presentation about the history of Portage High School in Iraq
